Abstract
A composition comprising a compound isolated from Inonotus obliquus or Phellinus baumi is provided to decrease uric acid in blood by inhibiting xanthine oxidase, an important factor of forming the uric acid, and inhibit the expression of gelatinase B, thereby being usefully used as a material of medicines and health foods for preventing and treating gout. A composition or health food for preventing and treating gout comprises a compound represented by the formula(1) as an effective ingredient, which is isolated from Inonotus obliquus or Phellinus baumi. The compound is 4-(3,4-dihydroxy-phenyl)-but-3-en-2-one.
